Tom Vorstenbosch successfully defended his PhD Thesis!

On the 18th of December, Tom Vorstenbosch defended his thesis “Modelling biological invasions in the sub-Antarctic under climate change”, supervised by Stefan Dullinger & Franz Essl (Uni Vienna).

His thesis consists of three scientific publications, including:

  • A study on the effects of non-analog conditions on species distribution modelling in the sub-Antarctic.
  • A risk analysis for a large set of globally invasive alien plant species on 12 peri-Antarctic islands.
  • A study that investigates the role of historical and modern shipping in alien plant introductions in the broader sub-Antarctic region.

We are especially grateful to Pete Convey (British Antarctic Survey) and Nigel Yoccoz (University of Tromsø) for their review of the thesis, and to the other two examiners for their effort and an interesting discussion.

We congratulate Tom on his excellent work and inspiring presentation – and a successful defense!
