Janine Oettel successfully defended her PhD thesis

Janine Oettel defended her thesis “Modelling drivers of deadwood amount, decomposition and residence time taking into account the occurrence of deadwood-inhabiting insects in Austrian forests“, supervised by Martin Gossner (WSL, Switzerland), Katharina Lapin (BfW), and Franz Essl (Uni Vienna). Janine had written three publications as part of her PhD which were published in prestigious journals such as “Journal of Applied Ecology”. The PhD of Janine contributed greatly to a better understanding of the role of deadwood in forests, and it provided recommendations how forest management can better integrate deadwood into sustainable forestry. We congratulate Janine to her outstanding work!
